This will be the third year that Governor Mike Beebe will declare September “Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month” for the state of Arkansas. Therefore, we use September as our month to “Shout out Loud” and have events to honor those conquering this disease, those that have lost their battle with this disease and those wanting to support our efforts. Artists for Ovaries is a wine/cheese silent art auction to benefit the AROVCC and welcome survivors attending the annual UAMS Ovarian Cancer Retreat. There will be all types of mediums and sizes. Come join us for a great time!

Please note that our space for the Marriott has been graciously donated.  The kindness such as this is what allows the AROVCC to focus our use of money towards the education and awareness to others about this disease.

Hope Hike 2009 “Shout It From The Mountain”

WHAT: A Memorial Hike to Benefit Ovarian Cancer research, in memory of the life of Lisette C. Johnson, 1952 – 2008.

 

WHEN: Saturday, May 9, 2009. Check-in 8:00 a.m.; Kick-off ceremony 9:00 am. Hike ends at 2:00 p.m.

 

WHO: Hikers, walkers, runners, cancer survivors, family, friends, loved ones, leashed pets & owners, & other supporters are invited to participate.

 

WHERE: Pinnacle Mountain State Park.

Registration, check-in, & opening program at park’s West Summit Pavilion.

 

HOW: Hike, walk, or run the Pinnacle Mountain trail of your choice. Choose from 8 trails in varying lengths or be a virtual hiker.

UAMS Retreat Sept. 26 to Offer Support, Education for Ovarian Cancer Survivors

Survivors of ovarian and other gynecological cancers will be celebrated during a day-long retreat at the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).

Scheduled for 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 26, “Shout About the Disease that Whispers” will promote complementary and conventional approaches in the care of women with gynecological cancers. The retreat is hosted by the Just Among Women support group and is open to women with ovarian and other gynecological cancers and their support persons.

Cost to attend is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Advance registration is encouraged by Sept. 15 by calling the Cancer Institute’s Clinical Oncology Social Work Department at (501) 686-8145
