Awareness in Arkansas is growing daily and we are excited about every step. The Arkansas Ovarian Cancer Coalition is proud to be a part of the first annual Lisette C. Johnson Memorial Hike for Ovarian Cancer Education and Research.

We would like to invite you to join us as we celebrate life and remember those who have battled this disease.  We know it will be a fun-filled experience for the entire family.

We kindly ask that you do all you can to support this event to help fulfill our goal of educating the public, bringing forth awareness and supporting ovarian cancer research. You can find more information about the Hope Hike under Upcoming Events or go to thier website.

Researchers from cancer centers in the US and Europe have discovered a promising drug-MORAb-003- for treating women with epithelial ovarian cancer.  More than 90% of epithelial ovarian tumors overexpress folate receptor alpha (FRA), which plays a role in tumor growth. MORAb-003, a targeted treatment, works by blocking FRA. Unlike chemotherapy, targeted treatments attack specific molecules and cell mechamisms thought to be important for cancer cell survival and growth. This specific targeting helps to spare healthy tissues and causes less severe side effects.  Based on these promising early results, additional clinical trials of MORAb-003 with chemotherapy are planned.

The Board of the Arkansas Ovarian Cancer Coalition often refers to taking “baby steps” in reaching our goals.  As a group that formed out of nothing but a common desire to educate others, we literally started with nothing but sheer determination.  This year alone we have received donations amounting to $8500 and counting.  The success of our rally, luncheon and the sale of our t-shirts is helping that number grow.  Money raised  is earmarked for spreading the word on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.  We have information packets we mail and provide for anyone interested.  We now have the means to expand this effort into areas outside of central Arkansas.  We also are excited to be welcoming new members to our task force who bring with them creative ways to further our cause.

Our appreciation to those who have given financial support is tremendous. Not only are we grateful for the monetary contributions, but for the door prizes, graphic design and printing services as well.  Thank you does not seem adequate, but our gratitude for those who have given their support and time is immense.

If you are able to get your car washed at the SUDS carwashes on Maumelle Blvd and on the corner of Shackleford & Rodney Parham, SUDS is going to contribute 10% of their September earnings to the Arkansas Ovarian Cancer Coalition to be used to help educate and raise awareness about this silent killer. The Shackleford location has a big ovarian cancer awareness banner out front, you can’t miss it.

Please take a moment to do this, it will be the best car wash you have ever received AND you will benefiting ovarian cancer awareness!

The AR Ovarian Cancer Coalition is proud to be a part of the UAMS Ovarian Cancer Retreat. Because of our success with our events on Sept. 9th, we were able to sponsor two tickets to the retreat!
